Group History
Our research group at
department of chemistry, IASBS, has been initially started its
research activities since summer1998. Our major goal was preliminary
based on the exploring of new applications of some neutral or nearly
neutral Lewis acids like LiBr and LiOTf in the process so traditionally called
"Acid Catalyzed Reaction".
Along this line in 1999 we found
that
some small organic molecules (organocatalysts) such as N-Bromosuccinimide
(NBS) and N-Iodosuccinimide
(NIS) could catalyze a few of well-known acid catalyzed reaction
under almost neutral reaction condition. To our knowledge these
catalysts could consider as the first non-metallic organo-Lewis acid
in organic chemistry,
which would find widespread
applications in the future.
