Physics research at IASBS is mainly focused on condensed matter, optics, and astrophysics. A major field of research in our Department is the study of the condensed state of matter. In addition, the members of the Department have undertaken the task of introducing two new groups, Nano-physics and Photonics. The Physics Department is equipped with a large collection of hardware and software facilities for educational and research purposes. The Condensed Matter GroupThe Condensed Matter Group at IASBS is an active research group working in the general area of statistical mechanics of disordered and frustrated systems, soft condensed matter, quantum phase transitions, strongly correlated electron systems, nano and mesoscopic system, superconductivity, physics of graphene, physics of porous and fractured media, physics of polymer, and dynamics of Neural Networks. An active Weekly Cond Mat Seminar is held every Tuesday, 14:00-15:30, at the Torkaman Lecture Hall throughout the academic terms. Optics GroupThe Optics Group was established in 1993 by M. T. Tavassoli, H. R. M. Khalesifard, and A. Darudi. The Optics Group activiities are focused on atmospheric optics and LIDAR application, interferometry, Moiré technique and atmospheric turbulence, optical trapping of nanoparticles, optics of nonlinear organic matter, and optical properties of silver nanoparticles. For more information please click here. A lively Weekly Optics Seminar is held every Thursday, 11:00-12:30, at the Torkaman Lecture Hall. Astrophysics GroupThe Astrophysics Group's activities in theoretical astrophysics and cosmology include galactic dynamics, alternative gravity theories, MOND, globular cluster evolution. A weekly Astrophysics Seminar (AstroSem) is held every Monday, at 14:00, in Class B. |
